Slot

The word slot is a late 14c. French word, meaning a hollow place at the base of the throat, above the breastbone. It comes from Old French esclot, which is of uncertain origin. Its synonym, Old Norse slod, is also related. It first occurs in 1520, but the meaning of slot machine is not documented until 1888. But before it was used for gambling, slot was primarily used to describe an airplane slot.

The Slot type specifies what the bot should look for when processing an utterance. For example, it can map flight codes to slot types. It can even match phrases found in utterances. It can map all kinds of information to the type of slot a user wants to play. Once the bot has mapped a slot type, it can use it in an utterance. This is useful if the user wants to book a flight, but doesn’t know where to book a room.

Modern slot machines are more complicated than their older counterparts. Rather than using mechanical mechanisms, they use microprocessors that assign different probabilities to each symbol, so that you can bet on the lowest probability. A modern slot machine will allow you to bet on a larger jackpot – even one with just one spin. The higher your winnings, the more likely you are to win. When you play a slot game, be sure to read the pay table.
